Experience and Expertise:

William A. "Bill" Caldwell is an independent consultant specializing in the compensation field of Human Resources and is Executive Editor of The Compensation Guide, a continuously updated handbook covering multiple, current topics within the compensation specialty, and published by Thomson-West Publishing.

Following military service as a carrier-based jet pilot with the U.S. Navy, Mr. Caldwell has been active for over 38 years in the Human Resources field. Prior to becoming a consultant he was Corporate Vice President, Human Resources with Equifax, Inc., where he was responsible for developing and implementing programs in employment, training and development, compensation, benefits, equal employment/affirmative action and employee relations for the Atlanta-based company. For 19 years Mr. Caldwell served in various human resources capacities in the banking/finance industry. He was Senior Vice President and Director of Human Resources for Sovran Financial Corporation/Central South (formerly Commerce Union Corporation and currently Bank of America, Tennessee) in Nashville, Tennessee. He held a similar position with Texas American Bancshares in Fort Worth, Texas. During the period 1969-1982 he was Senior Vice President and Director of Personnel Administration and Director of Compensation and Benefits with NCNB Corporation (which became NationsBank Corporation and is now Bank of America) in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Mr. Caldwell consults and lectures on compensation matters throughout the United States.

 

Education, Special Training and Certifications:

A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mr. Caldwell earned a BA Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

 

Mr. Caldwell is a life member of WorldatWork (formerly American Compensation Association (ACA), and was on its Board of Directors for nine years. While on ACA's Board he served as President of their Southern Region, as National President and as National Chairman of the Board. He holds Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) and Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designations through WorldatWork. As a member of WorldatWork's Certification Course faculty he teaches Compensation courses throughout the U.S. and internationally. WorldatWork is a not-for-profit organization whose 26,000-plus members design and administer employee compensation and benefits programs throughout the U.S. and the world.

 

As a member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), Mr. Caldwell was President of SHRM's Fort Worth chapter, and served on the Executive Advisory Council for the Atlanta SHRM Chapter. He was a charter director of the Atlanta Area Compensation Association (AACA). Mr. Caldwell has served on allocation panels for the United Way in both Fort Worth and Nashville/Middle Tennessee. He has been a member of the Nashville, Tennessee and Atlanta Inroads Boards of Directors and a member of the Health and Human Services Commission of the Southern Region Education Board (SREB).
