New Law Requiring E-Verify

Posted by Brenda on 9 August 2011 | 0 Comments

The Governor recently signed into law House Bill 36 that requires counties, cities, and employers to use the Federal E-Verify program to verify the authorization of newly hired employees. This bill requires North Carolina employers with 25 or more employees, including counties and cities, to verify that newly hired employees are legally authorized to work. The requirement to use E-Verify is effective on October 1, 2011 for certain state government employers and applies to employers on a graduated schedule beginning on October 1, 2012. The requirement will include all employers with 25 or more employees after July 1, 2013.

The HR Group, Inc. is holding a half day workshop on this issue, how this new law will impact NC Employers and I-9 record keeping requirements, and what employers need to know about E-Verify. This workshop will also explain the enrollment process, forms, MOU, and selecting administrators.
