OSHA 30-Hour Training

The 30-hour General Industry Outreach Training Program is intended to provide a variety of training to workers with some safety responsibility. This program is provided in accordance with the OSHA Outreach training requirements and qualified participants will receive an OSHA card documenting the successful completion of the mandatory 30 hours of training. It teaches those with safety & health responsibility about the rights of employees, employer responsibilities, OSHA rights and responsibilities and other topics important to safety & health practitioners.
While the OSHA 30-hour program is voluntary and does not meet training requirements in any OSHA standard, it can assist general industry employer's efforts to meet their safety training goals, and to understand their employee responsibilities. Training will emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention and some emphasis on OSHA standards for business and industry. Topics include the following mandatory topics for a minimum of 13 hours:
- Introduction to OSHA
- Managing Safety and Health
- Walking & Working Surfaces
- Exit Routes, Emergency Action Plans, Fire Prevention Plans and Fire Protection
- Electrical
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Materials Handling
- Hazard Communication
In addition the curricula include the following elective topics for a minimum of 7 hours:
- Hazardous Materials (Flammable and Combustible Liquids, Spray Finishing, Compressed Gases, Dipping & Coating Operations)
- Permit-Required Confined Spaces
- Lockout/Tagout
- Machine Guarding
- Welding, Cutting, and Brazing
- Introduction to Industrial Hygiene
- Bloodborne Pathogens
- Ergonomics
- Fall Protection
- Safety & Health Programs
- Powered Industrial Vehicles
- OSHA Recordkeeping
The curricula can include other general industry hazards or policies (such as safety & health committees, job hazard analysis) and/or expand on mandatory or elective topics. The minimum length of any topic is ½ hour.
The 30-hour training program is presented by H. Graham Dail, M.Ed., CHCM, an authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer. As noted above, participants completing attendance requirements will receive their OSHA General Industry Card.
The investment of $399 includes all materials, lunch and the "OSHA General Industry Regulations, 29 CFR 1910" as well as the OSHA General Industry Standards book (a $65 value).
