Top HR Resolutions for 2010

In our recent 2010 HR Plans Survey, we asked the question, "What are your top one or two resolutions for the new year?"  The responses were interesting, but not totally unexpected.  Most of the responses fell under the following main headings, in no particular order:  
  • Hiring and Retention
  • Employee Engagement and Effectiveness
  • Job Descriptions
  • Remaining Union Free
  • Wellness and Healthcare Costs
  • Employee Handbooks and Policies
  • Operations

Here is a summary of the resolutions:  

 

Hiring and Retention
  • Retain and develop top performers
  • Improve candidate screening process
  • Hire the right people
  • Reduce turnover

Employee Engagement and Effectiveness
  • Continue building teamwork and excellent performance within our department.
  • Training and Re-Training Upgrade performance reviews to hold EE more accountable for progress
  • Employee Engagement
  • Improve Communications (3 people stated this resolution)
  • People development

Job Descriptions
  • Update all Job Descriptions and communicate those to all associates (2 people stated this resolution)

Remaining Union Free
  • Remain union-free
  • Union avoidance education.

Wellness and Healthcare Costs
  • Enhance our Wellness Program
  • Implement a stronger Wellness Program
  • Lower medical claims through our new Wellness Program
  • Lower total number of smokers throughout the company

Employee Handbooks and Policies
  • Create an Employee Handbook
  • Update/revise employee handbook
  • Revise lay-off policy

Operations
  • Create more organized procedures to operate more efficiently
  • Maintain effective control over daily operations while gearing up for physical expansion
  • Maintain compliance according to all local, state, federal, and industry guidelines
  • Try to deal with ongoing government intrusion
  • Grow sales and reduce costs
  • Reduce HR paperwork by increasing the number of electronic documents that we use
  • Better Customer Service
